School Wide Tardy Policy

  1. After every 6 tardies (Excused or Unexcused) in a class, the teacher calls home and assigns detention.
· Complete Office Referral form
· Assign detention same day if agreeable by parent or student or next day.
· Parent contact is required.
· Give student pink copy of referral with assigned date and time of detention.
· Drop white and yellow copy of referral form in main office.

  1. If the student fails to appear, the teacher reassigns detention.
· Campus Supervisor will notify teacher via e-mail if student is a no-show.
· Teacher will verify via e-mail to campus supervisor the reassigned detention.
· Campus Supervisor keeps Office Referral until detention is complete or further action is needed.

  1. If the student fails to appear a second time, the administrator calls home and assigns in-school suspension.
· Campus Supervisor will forward Office Referral form to appropriate assistant principal.
· Teacher will be notified via e-mail of student’s second failure to report to assigned detention and the student will now face consequences for disobedience as well as excessive tardies. No further action is required by the teacher at this point.

  1. If the student fails to appear a second time, the administrator suspends the student for 1 day.


Arvada West attendance expectations:

Students will:
  • Report to every class on time every day.
  • Be prepared for every class every day.
  • Abide by all attendance policies and procedures.

Teachers will:
  • Take attendance daily.
  • Complete necessary Office Referral as needed.
  • Make parent contacts as needed.
  • Enforce and abide by all attendance policies and procedures.
Campus Supervisors will:
  • Motivate students to be on time
  • Supervise detention.
  • Communicate with staff.
  • Complete the Office Referral form as necessary.
  • Enforce and abide by all attendance policies and procedures.

Administrators will:
  • Motivate students to be on time.
  • Support teachers and their classroom policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with staff.
  • Communicate with students and parents.
  • Intervene as appropriate with students that do not report to assigned detention.
  • Intervene as appropriate when student attendance/tardiness is excessive and unacceptable.
  • Enforce and abide by all attendance policies and procedures.


This policy goes into effect on the second day of school Wednesday, August 13.

Students tardy more that 10 minutes on a 7 period day or more than 20 minutes on a block day will be marked as absent.
